ON THE ISSUES
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION: Ms. Moran is passionate about the education of our young people, and holds a great concern for their success inside of the classroom and after graduation. Understanding that college is not the right path for everyone, she promotes a greater emphasis on vocational trade instruction being offered to students. Many young adults graduate from college with mountains of debt and struggle with finding good paying jobs while there is a great need for trade workers in this area. Virginia Beach needs skilled workers to fill our essential industry positions at our shipyards and in the private service industries like Electricians, Plumbers, and Carpenters. Joanna advocates for a full-time vocational trades focused high school.
STUDENT DISCIPLINE: As a parent, Joanna has first-hand experience with the discipline issues in VBCPS. A priority of the school board should be providing for the safety of our students, teachers, and school staff. Our teachers have raised overwhelming concern about school safety through multiple surveys, and Ms. Moran believe in taking immediate action to ensure the safety and enforcing equitable accountability for students and staff of VBCPS.
HISTORY: In this core subject, student test scores have dropped considerably across our great nation. The Commonwealth has recently changed its requirements for this class, and it is no longer considered a factor for accreditation. History is just as important as Math, Science, and English and should remain a key focus in our children’s education
